In the late 1950s, most of the Netherlands made up their mind: we are done with God and the church! But then the question arises: have we also stopped believing? The general opinion states that we have, but at times we think otherwise! Clever as we are, we came up with a lot of inconspicuous substitutes to rid ourselves of our justified doubts. What does this tell us about human beings and their needs?
The film explores, in an observational frame, man as storyteller, story consumer and doubter in the church of the 21st century: the quiet room.
